Many guys love to enjoy a day of working on a new cabinet, or a day of overhauling their basement or garage. It’s in a man’s nature to want to create something, so we always will enjoy creating new furniture, updating our homes, or even just making a new BBQ pit for the family to enjoy. But for some lucky few, they are able to live their lives doing just this as a commercial contractor for elegant restaurants, clubs, and bars. Ever wonder what it’s like? We asked a couple of people and this is what they told you.
- “Some of the jobs are absolutely massive, and it can get old at times.” For guys who want to keep the projects short, being a contractor may get old fast, simply because they can take several months. Still, it’s awesome to know that you are part of such a large scale job.

- “It’s hard work, but the fact is that you still get to have a lot of fun on the job.” For those of us who can’t get enough of fixing things, being a commercial contractor who specializes in venue overhauls can be one of the most exciting, fun jobs in the world. It is still hard physical work though, so expect to come home from work tired and sweaty more often than not.
- “Even if you thought you were a DIY guru before, you will end up learning a lot more than you thought was possible while you’re on the job.” Believe it – you will learn about how to use commercial construction tools, smart tricks that can save time on projects, and you will also learn important laws about zoning when you are a commercial contractor. Even if you knew a lot before, you will still learn tons.
- “You will also end up making a lot of money in this field.” Even though it is a fun job, being a contractor is also very lucrative. You will have no problem supporting a family on a salary as a contractor.
- “It can get messy.” Construction work is a messy kind of work. Expect there to be days when you are covered in dust, grit and grime. Expect lots of them, actually.
The fact is that for many men, being a contractor that does a lot of commercial work can be one of the nicest ways to make a living. As long as you love construction, you will probably love to be a contractor who fixes and updates restaurants.
